Mona,
A nickname impued by my mother to me when I was a little girl. A connection to a woman I love whom I saw for all her strength, a strength i've come to notice I share.

bonita mona traces its roots all the way back to my childhood. My fashion sense often made me the odd one out, the colourful child on the playground. I'll admit to being a little eccentric or perhaps ahead of the curve but as many young designers, I was absorbed by the creativity of it all.

Paths are rarely straight, and before the first bag was ever conceived, I spent many years as a sock designer. A passion that has yet to subside. You'd be as likely to find me browsing racks of socks in a thrift store as a high-end boutique.

Another detour, another valuable experience. Like collecting pencils for an arts and crafts toolbox, I gathered knowledge in textiles and form designing active wear, sweaters and coats for a local women-led company. The destination, my dream, was right around the corner.

It is during my honeymoon to Japan, a destination I had sought for 15 years that the final threads finally materialized. My return to form. A deep love for accessories, one that wouldn't sacrifice comfort and warmth in exchange for quality designs and materials. I returned vibrant, adamant to create a bag that was cozy, cute and sophisticated. This is one bubble I hope never pops!!
